In September 2000, 189 countries adopted eight Millennium Development Goals to halve world poverty by 2015. These goals commit countries to do more to affect change for the 1.4 billion people living in extreme poverty.

Goal 1: Eradicate Extreme Poverty and Hunger

Because in 2006 more than 140 million children in developing countries were malnourished.

Because in 2006 73 million children of primary school age were not attending school.

Because every minute a woman dies of complications in pregnancy & birth. 99% are in developing countries.

Because nearly 7, 500 people are infected with HIV and 5, 500 people die from AIDS - everyday.
